What’s Up Marcus Smart?

Hellllooooooo Celtics fans!

After hearing “Yooooo…Kawhi Leonard is DEFINITELY going to the Celtics” for like, too long, please note now that the San Antonio Spurs traded their forward Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday. I am so happy to say “I told you so!” to all those people I argued with about this, as I knew the Celtics didn’t want to give away any of their starters.

In other big news: The Celtics DID re-sign Marcus Smart. The renewed Celtic is now bound to a four year, $52 million deal with the Celtics. Unlike those around me, I am not sure how I feel about this decision yet. Marcus Smart is a point guard/shooting guard, JUST like Kyrie Irving, who I am very excited to see on the court again. The Celtics also still have Gordon Hayward, who plays small forward/shooting guard. Since these guys (Irving/Hayward) didn’t get as much playing time as we all wanted last year, are we forgetting that Smart won’t play over them? However, when I think of Marcus Smart, I don’t really think about his stats. Honestly, I think of the things that can’t be charted- like his extreme toughness.  Guys like this contribute different values to a team. as they can be seen as a “difference maker” in spirit and morale.

The Boston Celtics have 13 of their 15 roster spots secured as of right now. The starting lineup includes Kyrie Irving, Jaylen Brown, Gordon Hayward, Jayson Tatum, and Al Horford. Some key reserves include Terry Rozier III, Marcus Morris, Aron Baynes, and now Marcus Smart. So, should we just be handed the Eastern Conference Finals trophy like free candy now, or…?
