The Celtics’ Preseasons Under Brad Stevens

In July of 2013, Brad Stevens was signed as the head coach for the NBA’s Boston Celtics, so I’ll be focusing on the Celtics under Brad Stevens in this article. Full disclosure, I will NEVER put this much time into researching and typing up stats EVER again. I spent so much time looking up each preseason and regular season record from 2013 to now, when I usually include a few stats and mostly opinion. Hopefully ya’ll get my point here in my comparison of preseason records with regular season records.

This topic was brought to my attention after @TomCapo57 tagged me in @StoolGreenie’s tweet “Who writes the ‘Should we be nervous about the Celtics’ column tomorrow?”, and my interest was further provoked after I saw a tweet floating around Twitter listing the Celtics regular season records under Brad Stevens showing an increase in wins and a decrease in losses. I usually don’t spend much time investing in the preseason. I’ve never been to a preseason game, and I’ve never watched a whole preseason game on TV. I might bring out the Celtics gear around preseason time, but I’ve always been more interested in regular season.

In looking at Brad Stevens’ Celtics, I noticed that preseason records did positively correlate to regular season records. Please see below:

Generally, the better the preseason record, the better the regular season record. However, just because the Celtics are 1-2 in their preseason right now, does that mean that we should worry about their regular season? Honestly, if they don’t win this Saturday against the Cavs, I might be a little bit worried, or I might just go back to not caring about the preseason. Although in the past 5 seasons, a winning preseason record correlates with a winning regular season record, no one can tell me that since the Celtics had a losing (or tied) preseason record this season, that they’ll have a losing regular season record, too. Get out of here.
