Astros’ star Alex Bregman’s efforts don’t stop on the field when it comes to making a difference in Houston.
Bregman felt like racking up some good karma recently. He called up a local dining spot to find out whether any members of the restaurant’s waitstaff were finding themselves going through a particularly difficult time; a single mother, or a student struggling with bills.
According to Bregman’s contact (who appeared to be an owner or manager), one waitress in particular stood out as being in need of assistance. Jordan Thompson, a full time student, had just experienced a car break-in and was in need of some extra cash to help her get by.
Bregman, accompanied by a few of his buddies, arranged to be seated in Thompson’s section. The group ordered a round of waters (with one billable iced tea), and then came up with an excuse to get them out of the restaurant. When Thompson returned, she found a $500 tip waiting for her.
The video is awesome.

Dallas Mavericks’ rookie Luka Doncic is here to play, y’all.
The hype surrounding Doncic going into the season was significant, but he hasn’t disappointed. In his first year playing basketball in the U.S., the teenage Slovenian is averaging nearly 20 points per game, as well as 6.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists.
The Mavs, not about to miss out on a pop culture moment, debuted this incredible video on the jumbotron during Saturday’s win over Oklahoma City.
Behold, Slovenian Rhapsody:

Welcome to the world, lovely Miss Genevieve!
The San Diego Padres have a new AA affiliate, and the mascot has officially blown my mind.
As of the 2019 season, Amarillo, Texas will call itself home to the team formerly known as the San Antonio Missions. With the move comes a whopper of a new name: the Amarillo Sod Poodles.
The term “sod poodle” apparently comes from old pioneer lingo for prairie dogs. The name was chosen by way of a “Name the Team” contest, beating other such entries like the Amarillo Boot Scooters, the Amarillo Bronc Busters, and my personal favorite, the Amarillo Jerky.
Just when it seemed like everything about this new team had reached a delightful level of peak yeehaw, I saw them. The Sod Poodles themselves.
