Rookie Report Offense: Week 14 Robert Foster, WR, Buffalo Bills

Because most rookies don’t get enough credit, we’ll be highlighting some top performances by the NFL’s next generation.

 Offense: Week 14

With the Bills cutting Kelvin Benjamin outright, you might have expected a massive drop off in production from the position going forward.  But Cam Newton’s former favorite target never fit in up in Buffalo, his skills never fully optimized.  Maybe the Bills saw the writing on the wall, or maybe they knew they had a younger (and cheaper) developing talent waiting in the wings, one that could grow and improve alongside rookie QB Josh Allen.  Undrafted rookie WR Robert Foster might just be that guy.  He hauled down seven catches (out of seven attempts by Allen) for over 100 yards in Buffalo’s eventual loss to the Jets.  Those numbers led the team in a competitive divisional matchup.  While Foster’s athleticism is exceptional, he’s still learning his way around the position after a stop and start career at Alabama.  Foster has already displayed the ability to break open with sudden cuts and game-breaking speed.  He already has a 75-yard touchdown reception to his credit on a Bills team that isn’t focused on the vertical passing game.  If he continues to develop and build rapport with Josh Allen, he could be a terrific offensive weapon for the Bills long term.  They might just have found a diamond in the rough.
