Buzz Bulletin: The Biggest Stories of 2018

For the final Buzz Bulletin of the year, it only makes sense to take a look back at some of the major events we couldn’t stop talking about in 2018.

Philly Finally Wins

In a bummer of a game for those of us in New England, the Eagles won their first Super Bowl in franchise history. Thanks to backup QB Nick Foles and his big, ah, performance, Philly had reason to celebrate.

The Eagles weren’t Philly’s only highlight this year. More on that below.

NCAA Basketball: #16 Beats #1

Early in the year, basketball fans saw one of the biggest upsets in sports history when UMBC (the #16 seed in their conference) beat top-seeded Virginia to start off NCAA March Madness with a bang. Needless to say, people were shook and their brackets busted.

It was the first time in tournament history that a #1 lost to a #16.

Lebron Leaves Cleveland (Again)

After the NBA finals wrapped, the talk of the league quickly turned to Lebron James. For the second time in his career, Lebron was faced with the choice between staying in Cleveland or taking his talents to greener pastures. We now know he ended up signing with the Lakers, but for a minute, the decision was all the sports world talked about.

Lucky for us, the speculation leading up to Lebron’s announcement made for some quality Twitter content.

Gritty

The second half of 2018 belonged to Gritty, the Flyers’ orange muppet of a mascot to whom my heart also belongs. Whether he’s picking fights with fans on the ice or with rival mascots on Twitter, Gritty’s DGAF attitude and truly hilarious antics have bridged a gap between the NHL and the rest of the world.

Here are a few of Gritty’s best moments from 2018.

I look forward to seeing what Gritty has in store for us in 2019.

  1. It is unsettling to Dad that his little girl knows what Nick Foles is even more famous for besides winning that Super Bowl.
