2019 Draft Needs Tracker: Chicago Bears

With the draft looming a few short weeks away, teams are busy figuring out who can make their teams better. Here’s my take on what your team needs to do in the draft to take the next step.

NFC North: Chicago Bears

Picks

1st Round: None
2nd Round: none
3rd Round: 88

It’s a good thing that the Bears started hitting on all cylinders last season and look to be on the upswing, because reinforcements aren’t coming via this draft. With no picks in the first or second round, the Bears will need to be very careful with their third rounder, because whiffing there would probably negate the entire value of this year’s draft. Evaluating talent isn’t easy, and it’s significantly harder when your first selection comes after most teams have already picked three times…There aren’t many obvious holes in this team as assembled, their biggest need might well be at kicker. Some depth at running back wouldn’t be a bad idea and seems safe, nor would beefing up the offensive line if the right guy is available. But most likely, I’d foresee them grabbing some help in the secondary, especially if Adrian Amos skips town in free agency. I’m always interested to see what good teams do in the draft, especially teams like the Bears that seem to be on the rise. The Bears don’t have a lot of cap space left, either, so they’re not likely to be swinging for the fences in free agency this offseason, but if they can keep their core in place and improve in a few places, they’ll contend again in 2019.
