To say the Montreal Canadiens have had a rough season would be an understatement. The season hasn’t gone the way they wanted and they are missing the playoffs after a disastrous year. But that didn’t stop Canadiens fans from cheering on their favorite goaltender after he surpassed Jacques Plante on the Canadiens all time goalie games played list. Carey Price is now in sole possession of the top spot with 557 games played.
Price was very pleased from the reaction of the crowd. Even after all the rough times the Habs have had this season, the fans took a moment to appreciate one of the best goalies in the league.
Price has always been there for the Habs. Montreal drafted him 5th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He broke into the league during the 2007-08 season where he posted a 24-12-3 record and a 2.56 GAA/.920 SV%. Since then, Price has only had more losses than wins three times in his 11 year career.
His best season came in 2014-15 where he posted a record of 44-16-6 with a 1.96 GAA and .933 SV%. Price led the team to clinching first place in the Atlantic Division. In the first round of the playoffs, Price led the Canadiens to the second round by defeating Ottawa four games to two. In the second round Montreal fell to Tampa Bay four games to two.
Price’s career record is 286-200-62 with a 2.46 GAA and .918 SV%.
Price won the Vezina Trophy back in 2014-15 for being the NHL’s best goaltender that year. He won the Ted Lindsay Award that same year for being the league’s most outstanding player. He also won the William M. Jennings for the least goals scored against and Hart Memorial Trophy in 2014-15 for being the league’s MVP.
Price has had a great career and this season is no reflection of how good of a goaltender he is. To pass Jacques Plant on the Canadiens all time goalie games played list is a tremendous accomplishment. Price will get many more games under his belt in the coming years and will far surpass Plante.
