I guess I owe you a Celtics article now, right? The last time I broke things down was in my article on October 25th. I said the Celtics were struggling with rotation, which I still stand by.
The Celtics now rank 6th in the East right now alongside the Hornets at 7-6. They do have a winning record, which is a positive for sure. Everyone below them in the Conference is either tied (Pistons 6-6) or has a losing record.
There is no doubt that the season has started off very slow. I think that Celtics fans, the team, the coaching staff, and the franchise were extremely cocky going into the season. Confidence is one thing, but cockiness doesn’t win games.
“We needed this. We’re not as good as we think we are.”
-Kyrie Irving referring to their 1-4 road trip
However, Kyrie made another comment that caused a media explosion:
“Right now I think it would be nice if we had someone that was a 15-year vet, a 14-year vet, that could kind of help us race along the regular season and understand it’s a long marathon rather than just a full-on sprint”
The Celtics are young, but they’re not that young:
- Horford is in his 12th season
- Irving is in his 8th season
- Morris is in his 8th season
- Aron Baynes is in his 7th season
- & the Celtics do not have any rookies in their regular rotation
The Celtics seemed to have overlooked the fact that they would have to wait out an adjustment period while their two star players, Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward, were getting back into the lineup.
The Celtics do lead the NBA in defense ratings (102.7!) The Celtics play the Bulls (4-10) tomorrow at 7:30PM, which they should win, to get them to 8-6. Then they play the Raptors (12-2) Friday 11/16 at 7:00PM, which just proves how hard their schedule has been.
Buckle up and enjoy the Celtics getting their game together.

Added note: Al Horford said that after a game Marcus Smart addressed the team and told them that “There’s no more excuses”. Yeah, ok, how about you stop punching walls? Or fighting people? Sorry not sorry, I still dislike him.
