Because most rookies don’t get enough credit, we’ll be highlighting some top performances by the NFL’s next generation.
Offense: Week 13
Christian Kirk, WR, Arizona Cardinals
Fans in the Arizona desert haven’t had a ton to cheer about this season, as the Cardinals and their first-round pick, rookie QB Josh Rosen, have looked uneven as the season progresses. One high point to watch has been the growing chemistry that Rosen has with his draft-mate, second-round pick Christian Kirk. The former Texas A&M standout has proved himself an invaluable asset to the Cardinals, ranking fourth among all rookies in receiving yardage and giving the team a glimpse of what their top target will look like once the legendary Larry Fitzgerald hangs up his cleats. In the Cardinals week 13 upset over the Packers, Kirk averaged 18 yards per catch, as well as helping in the running game with a massive 23-yard rush. All season long, Kirk has shown big play potential with six receptions that went for over 25-yards, including touchdown catches of 75 and 59 yards. The bad news after the Green Bay win is that Kirk is headed to the injured-reserve list after suffering a broken foot on Sunday. Word is that he should be back for next season, so we’ll have to keep an eye on his progress as he works his way back onto the field.
