It was fun to play with the numbers from last year, and I found some interesting parallels. The Celtics are on a similar path right now as last year.
Last year at this time, I was writing about how the Patriots-Loss-Can-Be-a-Celtics-Treasure. That was on February 5th, 2018 the day after Super Bowl LII, when the Patriots lost to the Eagles 41-33. At that point in the season, the Celtics were 39-15, after their noontime matchup on Superbowl Sunday. This game sealed a 4 game win streak. They finished the season 55-27 and 2nd in the NBA Eastern Conference, after beating Milwaukee and Philadelphia in the first two rounds of the Playoffs and losing to Cleveland in the Conference Finals.
This year, on Superbowl Sunday (February 3rd, 2019) the Celtics beat the Thunder in their 2:00pm match up. This brought their record to 34-19. It has since then increased to 35-19 after their Tuesday victory over Cleveland. They play tonight against the Lakers at 8:00pm.
Currently, Milwaukee sits as the #1 seed in the East, and Philadelphia sits at #5. Cleveland is a lost cause at #14. Celtics are #3 and on a 5 game win streak.
In case you’re a visual person, or you don’t get what I’m saying.
