2019 Draft Needs Tracker: Baltimore Ravens

With the draft looming a few short weeks away, teams are busy figuring out who can make their teams better. Here’s my take on what your team needs to do in the draft to take the next step.

AFC North: Baltimore Ravens

Picks

1 st Round: 22
2 nd Round: none
3 rd Round: 86

The Ravens were a nice surprise down the stretch after Lamar Jackson took over, but to contend long term, he’ll need to pass more and run less. Remember that despite his high percentage of rushes in 2018, Jackson threw the ball EVERYWHERE at Louisville. He’s not afraid to sling it. I’m thinking the Ravens will target a long, athletic receiver in the first round to develop alongside their young quarterback. Nothing harmonizes better with a solid running program like a true field-stretching deep threat. It’s a high-leverage situation, as the Ravens have only two picks in the first three rounds. They’re also likely to lose the pass rushing services of Za’Darius Smith and/or the 36-year old Terrell Suggs to free agency. I can’t see both of those guys shipping out, but if they do choose to let both Suggs and Smith slip away, they will definitely need to draft pieces along the defensive line, especially at the edge. Knowing the Ravens, defense will come first if that scenario comes to fruition. I’d also like to see them draft more depth at linebacker, a fast sideline to sideline tackler in the mold of Darius Leonard would be a great find in the third round and the Ravens have a long history of making good choices on the defensive side in the draft.
