2019 Draft Needs Tracker: Buffalo Bills

With the draft looming a few short weeks away, teams are busy figuring out who can make their teams better. Here’s my take on what your team needs to do in the draft to take the next step.

AFC East – Buffalo Bills

Picks
1st Round: 9
2nd Round: 40
3rd Round: 75

Josh Allen might not have made the playoffs like Lamar Jackson. He might not have a super team forming around him like Baker Mayfield. But by all accounts, Josh Allen looks to be a quarterback with some legitimate potential in Buffalo. Allen was actually the best rookie RUSHING quarterback in the league last year, not Lamar Jackson, averaging three yards per rush more than Baltimore’s elusive signal caller. That being said, Allen struggled with bad decisions under pressure in the passing game. Allen’s ceiling will largely depend on the talent that Buffalo can bring in around him. Free agency did bring them some steady veterans at WR (Cole Beasley) and RB (Frank Gore), so that should help. In the draft, I’ve got to assume they’ll be looking for big bodies to protect Allen along the offensive line. With the ninth pick overall, they should have a wealth of options at OT/OG, or they could go after an edge rusher/DE with their high pick, then look to bolster the offensive line in the later rounds. They could also use some speed in the secondary, so don’t be shocked if they go all-in on a cover corner. Buffalo rolled the dice on some big changes after their surprising playoff run in 2017, and 2018 was no fairy tale. They still have a way to go, and no one piece is going to fix what ails them. I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see them involved in some trades as the draft gets closer.
