Christmas is Coming! Oh, and the Raptors’ 2019-20 Schedule is Out.

IT’S HERE!

The 2019-20 Toronto Raptors’ NBA schedule has been released! And by the looks of this timetable, no one should bother calling me on a Wednesday or Sunday night from October until April. I’ll be busy.

While it doesn’t really feel like it’s been that long since the epic championship game in June, it also feels like it’s been forever since there’s been a decent basketball game on television. And although the season doesn’t begin until October 22, fans can at least start counting down the days now.

One thing you’ll notice about the Rap’s new schedule is that they’re playing a home game on Christmas day. The 17-year streak of not being “important enough” to feature in a Christmas Day game is finally coming to an end.

When the announcement was made last year that the Raptors wouldn’t play on Christmas Day, a lot of people were puzzled, shocked, and even dumbfounded. It would have made a lot of sense to broadcast a Raps vs. Spurs game where Kawhi made his first professional visit back to the AT&T Center. It doesn’t get much more dramatic than that, does it? What more could television viewers or basketball fans want? Well, the NBA didn’t agree. They figured the fans needed more. Instead, the Christmas games included the Bucks vs. Nicks, Thunder vs. Rockets, 76ers vs. Boston, Lakers vs. Warriors, and Blazers vs. Jazz.

… … … yawn.

But this year, THIS YEAR! Toronto will host a Christmas Day game against the Boston Celtics. Why a Toronto vs. Boston game will make for better television than a Kawhi-Returns-Home-To-San-Antonio game, nobody really knows. Yes, the Raps are the NBA title holders now, but that doesn’t really mean they’re more entertaining to watch, does it? None of the fans are complaining about this super sweet Christmas game opportunity, but it does seem a little odd. Eye-roll inducing.

Whatever. They’re playing the Celtics on Christmas day. That’s all that matters! As if Christmas isn’t already the most fun day of the year, Christmas 2019 is going to be the BEST ONE EVER!

My mom thinks it’s cruel to make people work on Christmas. But my mom also loves Fred VanVleet perhaps more than she loves me, so I think she’ll be okay with this exception.
