Huge news out of Patriot nation this weekend: the Antonio Brown era is over as quickly as it began.
According to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, the move was decided after a tense press conference on Friday that came to an abrupt end when Bill Belichick stormed off the podium in response to a barrage of questions about Brown. This response displeased team owner Bob Kraft, who asked Belichick to promise not to react with such vitriol in the future. When Belichick reportedly told Kraft that he could not make that promise, the team decided to part ways with Brown to avoid future distractions.
It’s no surprise that reporters have questions. Brown has now been accused of sexual assault by two different women: his former trainer Britney Taylor, and another anonymous woman who reports receiving threatening texts from Brown that included photos of her and her children after she rejected his sexual advances. This, combined with the clear distraction caused by Brown’s presence, was enough to pull the plug on his 11-day stint in a New England uniform.
Brown, to his credit, handled being cut with much more grace than he has in the past. He’s been known to tweet less than complimentary things about his former teams in the past, but in this case, it seems like he knew his goose was cooked.
The world of sports acts as a much-needed distraction for many of us from the dumpster fire that is our current society, but sometimes a story comes up that’s just a little extra wonderful.
Last Saturday, Carson King held up a sign on ESPN’s College GameDay that read “Busch Light Supply Needs Replenished” with his Venmo information.
He hoped to receive enough cash for a case of beer, but according to King, he received more than $400 in donations within the first half hour. By the time his beer fund crossed the $1600 threshold, King had a better plan for the money.
Donations continued to stream in throughout the rest of the weekend and into the week. By Tuesday, Busch and Venmo had both taken notice and offered to match King’s already sizable donation to University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
.@CarsonKing2 this is the best thing we have read all year, we’re inspired.
We’re going to match your donation to University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, and we’ll throw in some of that Busch Light you were looking for. https://t.co/NPPrPp6zJg
Busch even offered to send King a year’s supply of beer, because karma is real.

As of Thursday morning, King has raised more than $75,000 without counting the matching donations from Venmo and Busch. If you’d like to get in on the fundraising action, donations will be open until the end of the month (Venmo: Carson-King-25).
