Making Waves Evaluation Week 7: Jaylon Johnson
Cornerback – Chicago Bears
Two solo tackles, only one pass for fourteen yards allowed, one pass deflection
Maybe the stats aren’t jumping off the page, yet. But one reason that the Bears are 5-2 heading into week eight of the season is an overperforming defense that has done a great job clamping down on opposing receivers. The Bears are allowing a stingy 58.7 completion percentage, good for second-best in the league, and the second-round pick out of Utah has integrated himself perfectly into the Bears defensive secondary. He’s performed far beyond expectations, blanketing opposing wideouts and he’s deflected passes in all but two games he’s played. On Sunday, he held his covers to one completion for only fourteen yards despite a Rams offense that had some success moving the ball against the Bears.
