Fresh off an upset win over then number one Clemson, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish go to Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts to face the Boston College Eagles. The Irish come into this game with a record of 7-0. The Eagles come into this game with a record of 5-3. In this game BC will be wearing their Red Bandana jerseys, inspired by former Eagles lacrosse player Welles Crowthers who wore a red bandana under his helmet throughout his athletic career. Crowthers who worked as an equities trader on the 104th floor of the South Tower of the World Trade Center is credited with saving approximately 18 lives, before dying when the South Tower collapsed on September 11th, 2001.
The game which is nicknamed “The Holy War” between both religious schools is the first time that Boston College Quarterback Phil Jurkovec will be facing his former team. Jurkovec who spent his first two collegiate seasons at Notre Dame, transferred to Boston College this past offseason.
In Notre Dame’s last game they beat the Clemson Tigers 47-40 in double overtime. They were led by running back Kyren Williams’ 140 yards and 3 touchdowns. In Boston College’s last game, they beat Syracuse 16-13. They were led by Zay Flowers’ 64 yards and 1 touchdown.
Key for Notre Dame:
Get to Jurkovec early and often: Notre Dame had two sacks in the last game but they came at the most important time, getting to DJ Uiagalelei in double overtime to force a long fourth down play after a drop on third down. Phil Jurkovec hasn’t looked fresh after taking some big hits in the Clemson game two weeks ago. If Notre Dame can get to Jurkovec and make his day a living hell, they will have a comfortable win.
Key for Boston College:
Run the ball: Notre Dame has only given up 300+ rushing yards once this season, while BC has rushed for 150+ yards twice this season, both wins for the Eagles. Last week Notre Dame held one of the best running backs in the nation in Travis Etienne to 34 net yards. If Boston College has any hope of repeating 1993, they have to get the run game going against a formidable Notre Dame front seven.
Prediction: 34-28 Notre Dame Wins
